Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Oake, Bradford and Nynehead CE (VC) Primary School, we are committed to making sure every child feels included, valued and able to take part fully in school life.

We recognise that children learn and develop in different ways and that some may need additional or different support at different points in their education.

Our aim is to identify needs early and work closely with children, parents and carers to understand what support will help each child make progress and take part successfully in learning.

High-quality teaching is the starting point for all pupils. Where additional support is needed, we follow a graduated approach, using an ongoing cycle of assess, plan, do and review to consider what is working and what may need to change.

We make reasonable adjustments and adapt teaching, resources and the learning environment so that pupils with SEND can access the curriculum alongside their peers. Where appropriate, we also work with outside professionals and Somerset services to provide further advice or support.

Our Christian values are reflected in the way we recognise each child as an individual, celebrate their strengths and promote dignity, respect and belonging.

We believe that parents and carers know their children best, and we value working together openly and positively. Children are also encouraged to share their views and be involved in decisions about their support whenever possible.

Our aim is for pupils with SEND to develop confidence, independence and the knowledge and skills they need for their next stage of education and beyond.
