School Council

School Council

Our School Council is a lovely way for pupils to have their voices heard and play an active part in school life. From October, one child from each year group, alongside our Year 6 House Captains, will represent their peers, share ideas and meet with our Headteacher, Mrs Bond, to help make our school an even better place. It also helps children grow in confidence, teamwork and leadership.

Other leadership opportunities for the children

House Captains and Vice Captains

We have three houses at OBN: Quantock, Mendip and Blackdown. During Autumn 1, Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to apply in writing to become a House Captain or Vice Captain. These important leadership roles give pupils the chance to support school life by helping in worship, encouraging and supporting younger children, representing their house at events and competitions, and setting a positive example to others. Our House Captains and Vice Captains help to build a strong sense of teamwork, belonging and pride across the school..

Digital leaders

3 children from each class will help with the giving out, collecting, ensuring devices are charging and assisting others in computing lessons.

Librarians

Children in Years 3 and 4 can volunteer to become whole-school library monitors. We offer this opportunity to our Chestnut Class pupils as an early step in developing responsibility and independence. Our librarians help to keep the library tidy and welcoming, organise and return books, and encourage other children to enjoy reading and take care of our shared library space.
