Welcome to Chestnut, our bubbly and friendly mixed-age class for Year 2/3.

We provide a happy, caring and engaging environment where every child feels safe, valued and excited to learn.

📖 English

Our Focus Text: Goldilocks and the Three Bears by Lauren Child

This term, we will use Goldilocks and the Three Bears by Lauren Child as the basis of our Literacy Tree unit. Through carefully planned reading and writing lessons, children will immerse themselves in the text and use it as inspiration for a range of exciting learning opportunities, including:

Exploring characters, settings and story structure
Developing speaking and listening skills through drama and discussion
Building vocabulary and understanding of language choices
Writing for different purposes and audiences
Retelling, adapting and innovating stories

📚 Author of the Half Term

Our author this half term is Alex T. Smith.

We will enjoy sharing some of his popular and imaginative stories, including:

J.Algernon Pickle in The Mystery at Odd-Doings House

Everyone has the opportunity to succeed!

Children should have with them

A labelled water bottle
A reading pack containing their school reading book and reading record diary.
A waterproof coat.
Wellingtons for muddy weather play on school field.

Please note: all clothes (including coats and shoes) should be labelled should they need returning to them.

Every Thursday
Children to arrive at school in their PE kit.

Reading

Children need to bring in their books everyday.
Books are changed whenever they have finished.
If your child is reading in a phonic group there books are chnaged when they have completed the reading sessions in school.

Homework

Children are expected to read at home for every day.
Children are expected to practise and learn their times tables.
Children are expected to learn their weekly spellings

Communications

At Oake, Bradford and Nynehead Primary School, we use ClassDojo to communicate with parents - sharing any exciting news and update the Class Story regularly.
